THE SPRINGS

Bognanco, 7 km from Domodossola, is located in a corner of the Piedmont Alps bordering Switzerland, surrounded by natural parks in the largest “wilderness” area in Europe.

The waters of Bognanco flow from 3 different springs. Bognano produces 3 types of waters with distinct characteristics that differentiate them from each other. This is why we are able to offer such a wide range of waters.
Despite the fact that the Bognanco Waters and Thermal Baths celebrated their 150th year since the discovery of the springs in 1863, the properties of the Gaudenziana, Ausonia and San Lorenzo springs (commercial name Lindos) have remained unchanged throughout these years.

SPRING SAN LORENZO

The natural mineral water from the San Lorenzo spring is microbiologically pure.
Health Ministry authorization number 6 as of 28.02.1923
It also keeps its characteristics unchanged in the bottle. Daily consumption even away from the thermal baths can be considered as a preventive intervention.

Fonte San Lorenzo in detail …

Naturally effervescent, it is a water rich in carbon dioxide (2365 mg/L), magnesium (438 mg/L), bicarbonate (2058 mg/L), silica (69 mg/L), calcium (64 mg/L) and sodium (172 mg/L). These main components make it digestive, purgative and diuretic. Technically defined as “bicarbonate-alkaline-earthy-carbon and ferruginous” due to the presence of carbon dioxide, bicarbonate ions, sulphate ions and magnesium ions.

It is bottled under the commercial name of Acqua Lindos, exclusively in 0.5 L PET bottles, so that you can always take it with you. It is the only Italian mineral water whose bottle is entirely covered with a film (sleeve), whose purpose is to protect the content from light, while maintaining its properties and quality.

Unlike all other waters with similar healing properties, Lindos water is pleasant to taste, fresh, sparkling for the abundance of natural free carbon dioxide. Being easily assimilated, only an hour after ingestion it manifests its beneficial effects on the body.

SPRING AUSONIA

The natural mineral water from the Ausonia spring is microbiologically pure.
A Health Ministry authorization number 5 as of 28.02.1923
It also keeps its characteristics unchanged in the bottle. Daily consumption even away from the thermal baths can be considered as a preventive intervention.

Spring Ausonia in detail…

Ausonia water gushes in the park of the Bognanco Thermal Baths, located 700 meters above sea level. The source of the Ausonia spring, the only one of its kind in Italy, can be visited by the public. It is accesses through a 50 meters long gallery excavated by hand between the 1920s and 1930s.

Naturally effervescent, Ausonia medium-mineral water, technically defined as “bicarbonate-alkaline-earthy”, flows drop by drop directly from the rocks. It is perhaps the most versatile of the Bognanco watts, with a distinct flavor but pleasing to the palate and not at all “salty”. Its effervescence, not too marked but still sufficiently present to avoid the “go flat” effect, harmoniously balances its delicate flavor, making Ausonia suitable for a good number of dishes: from first courses of fish, vegetables or white meat, to second courses of fish.
The ideal serving temperature is around 10-11 degree Celsius.

Thanks to the richness of bicarbonate (555 mg/L), Ausonia water stimulates gastric secretion, favoring digestive processes and reducing inappetence and heartburn. For these reasons it is advice as table water.

SPRING GAUDENZIANA

The natural mineral water from the Gaudenziana spring is microbiologically pure.
A Health Ministry authorization number 1324 as of 14.10.1972
It also keeps its characteristics unchanged in the bottle. Daily consumption even away from the thermal baths can be considered as a preventive intervention.

Spring Gaudenziana in detail…

The Gaudenziana water comes from the high valley of Bognanco, at 1200 meters above sea level. The spring is the most recently discovered and its waters have been bottled since thee second half of the ’70 of the last century.

The Gaudenziana spring water does not require any type of filtration an in the bottle maintains unchanged over time its characteristics. Gaudenziana to taste is light and delicate. The low flatter allows pairing with desserts and delicate dishes, such as appetizers of fish and vegetables.
The ideal serving temperature is around 12 degrees Celsius.

The Gaudenziana mineral water, very light and poor in sodium (1.2 mg/L) finds indications in the treatment of kidneys diseases and urinary tract. Prolonged administration may prevent kidney stones.

History

It is said that the discoverer of the mineral waters of Val Bognanco, in 1863, drinking from a spring (named San Lorenzo), exchanged water for aqua was so his pinch. Don Tichelli, the local chaplain, after having analyzed the water and discovered its therapeutic properties, bought the field and the source, beginning the exploitation of the source and the marketing of the water under the name of “Acqua Gazosa di Bognanco”.

Since the beginning of the 20th century the company Tichelli & C. transformed into “Società Anonima per Azioni Acque e Terme di Bognanco”, it had a long period of popularity with the establishment of an important thermal baths complex, the construction of several hotels and the international distribution of the water. Bognanco thus became a very well known thermal baths and holiday resort. Its water was the first to be bottled using a fully automated process in 1929
